Cuiguan is a premium early-season Asian pear variety, bred by the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences from the cross of ‘Kousui’ and (‘Hangqing’ × ‘Xinshiji’). Officially released in 1997, this variety has become the benchmark early-ripening pear in southern China, known for its snow-white flesh, exceptional sweetness, and early market timing
The “June Snow” Experience:
Cuiguan pear is often called the “June Snow” – a name that perfectly captures its signature trait. When sliced open, the flesh is a striking snow-white color that resists browning exceptionally well. The texture is crisp, tender, and juicy, with very few stone cells – it literally melts in your mouth.
Flavor:
Deliciously sweet with a honey-like aroma, Cuiguan offers a soluble solids content of 12%–14% Brix and extremely low acidity (0.08%). The sugar-to-acid ratio is outstanding, delivering a pure, rich sweetness that appeals to a wide range of consumers
A large-fruited variety, average weight is 200–255 grams, with premium fruit reaching 400–500 grams. Edible rate is an impressive 96%
Key Commercial Advantages:
Early Season Market Window – Harvested from late June to late July, significantly earlier than northern pear varieties
Outstanding Appearance – Snow-white, non-browning flesh with a clean, yellow-green to yellow skin
Superior Eating Quality – Crisp, juicy, sweet, and virtually grit-free
Good Storage – Suitable for fresh market sales and short to medium-term storage
Late June to late August (depending on region) – a premium early-summer variety that captures strong seasonal demand
