(1) Yangmei variety - Dongkui

Yangmei is a unique fruit tree in southern China. Yangmei belongs to the Magnoli order, the Yangmei family, and is a small tree or shrub plant, being a perennial evergreen tree. It is mainly distributed in the areas south of the Yangtze River. Among all fruit varieties, the Yangmei tree enjoys the reputation of being a "green enterprise" and a "cash crop" due to its relatively easy cultivation method and an economic lifespan of about 100 years. The fruit has a bright color, high nutritional value, and unique flavor; it is resistant to poor soil conditions, has strong adaptability, is easy to cultivate; it is suitable for mountainous areas, with a dense and green tree crown, and a large amount of fallen leaves. It is also a non-leguminous nitrogen-fixing evergreen plant, making it a very good ecological economic tree species. The cultivation history of Yangmei is long, and there are significant differences in the ecological environment, resulting in many trait variations; through long-term cultivation, selection, and breeding by natural and artificial means, many local varieties and types have been formed; the Yangmei variety is classified based on fruit shape, size, color, flavor, etc.

Dongkui Yangmei

The tree has extremely strong vitality, an open tree form, strong branching ability, a round-headed tree crown, and short internodes between the branch tips. The leaves are large, in an inverted lanceolate shape, with a length of 9.7 centimeters and a width of 3.1 centimeters. The edges are wavy and wrinkled, and the leaf color is dark green. The fruit is extremely large, being an irregular spherical shape, weighing approximately 20 grams, with the largest single fruit weighing up to 50 grams. It is currently the largest variety of Yangmei fruit. The fruit surface is purplish red, and the flesh is red or light red. The suture lines on the fruit surface are obvious, the fruit stem is raised, and it remains yellowish green when mature; the pulp is slightly thick, with a bluntly pointed tip; it is juicy, sweet and sour to a good degree, with a strong flavor, containing 13.4% soluble solids, 10.5% total sugar, 1.10% acid content, and an edible rate of 94.87%, with excellent quality. The main production area reaches maturity in the first half of July, and the harvest period lasts for 10 to 15 days.
