Product Introduction

Product Name: Hongfei Cherry

Description:
Hongfei is the largest and sweetest variety among Chinese cherries (Cerasus pseudocerasus). Bred from a bud mutation of the Chinese red cherry, this variety is a breakthrough for southern China – it is the only large-fruited Chinese cherry variety suitable for low-chill southern regions .

A Cherry That Rivals the "Big Cherries":

While traditional southern Chinese cherries are small (3–5g), Hongfei produces fruit weighing 7–9 grams – comparable in size to European sweet cherries (大樱桃). This is a game-changer for southern growers who cannot cultivate high-chill sweet cherries .

Appearance:
The fruit has a distinctive nipple-like shape with a slightly pointed apex. Skin is bright red when first ripe, turning deep purple-red with a glossy, attractive finish. The flesh is yellow, tender, and juicy.

Flavor:
Exceptionally sweet with a soluble solids content of 18.5% – higher than any other Chinese cherry variety. The flavor is rich and refreshing, with a pleasant balance of sweetness and mild acidity.

Firm Flesh & Superior Storage:
Scientific research has confirmed that Hongfei is a firm-fleshed variety, maintaining better fruit firmness and shelf life than soft-fleshed cherries due to higher cellulose and lignin content in the fruit cell walls .

Size:
Average fruit weight is 7.2g, with large fruit reaching up to 9g.

Growing Advantages:
Requires only 250 chilling hours, making it suitable for cultivation from Guangdong and Guangxi northward. Self-fruitful with excellent fruit set, crack-resistant even in rainy seasons (2% crack rate), and shows strong disease resistance. Early-bearing and highly productive .

Harvest Season:
Mid-to-late April (in Chongqing) to early May (in Anhui). One of the earliest fruits of the season, offering premium first-to-market pricing.
