Product Name: Missi Plum
Description:
Methley is an extra-early maturing plum variety originating from New Zealand, bred as an interspecific hybrid of Chinese plum (Prunus salicina) and cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera). Introduced to China in 1987, this variety is prized for its early ripening, rich aroma, and excellent sweet-tart flavor.
Appearance:
The fruit is nearly round with a beautiful purple-red skin dusted with a silvery-white bloom. The flesh is light yellow when firm, turning bright red when fully ripe – a visually appealing feature for fresh-market sales. The pit is exceptionally small, giving this variety a 97.4% edible rate.
Flavor & Aroma:
Methley plums offer a well-balanced sweet-tart flavor with a soluble solids content of 13.0%. What truly sets this variety apart is its rich, distinctive aroma – a scientific study identified 58 aroma compounds in Methley, with the highest total aroma content among tested varieties, giving it a unique ester-type fragrance.
Size:
Small to medium fruit, average weight 50–65g, with maximum fruit reaching up to 100g.
Growing Advantages:
Self-pollinating and extremely productive. Trees begin bearing in the second year, with yields reaching 1,200 kg per mu by year 3 and 2,082 kg per mu by year 4. Shows good resistance to drought, cold, and diseases, with strong adaptability to various growing regions.
Harvest Season:
Early June to early July, depending on region – one of the earliest plums of the season, offering a significant first-to-market advantage.
