Product Introduction

Product Name: Satsuma Plum (Bilü Hongxin Plum)

Description:
The Satsuma Plum, also known as Bilü Hongxin (Green-skinned Red-fleshed) Plum, is a premium variety with a fascinating history. Originally from Japan, it was introduced to the United States by renowned breeder Luther Burbank in the late 19th century, and then to China in 1991 by the Shandong Fruit Research Institute. Today, it ranks as the second most planted plum variety in Japan, confirming its strong commercial value.

Appearance:
This variety produces nearly round fruit with a distinctive green skin that contrasts beautifully with its vibrant red flesh when cut open. The skin is thin and smooth with a light powdery bloom. The flesh is bright red, fine, tender, and juicy with a non-melting texture.

Flavor:
Exceptionally sweet and refreshing, with a soluble solids content of 17.2% and total sugar of 13.0%. The flavor is described as having a unique, pleasant aroma with a well-balanced sweet-tart profile.

Size:
Average fruit weight is 88g, with large specimens reaching up to 135g.

Storage Advantages:
One of this variety’s standout features is its exceptional storage life – fruit can be stored for 15–30 days at room temperature and up to 70 days under refrigeration, making it ideal for e-commerce, long-distance logistics, and extended sales windows.

Growing Advantages:
Early-bearing – trees begin fruiting in the second year and reach full production by year 4. Requires a pollinizer variety such as ‘Black Amber’ or ‘Odoroda’ for optimal fruit set. Shows good resistance to diseases and pests, with strong adaptability to multiple growing regions including Shandong, Zhejiang, and Beijing.

Harvest Season:
Late June to early July (Shandong region) – an early to mid-season variety offering excellent market timing.
