Product Name: Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit (G3)
Description:
SunGold is a premium golden-fleshed kiwifruit variety, developed by New Zealand’s Plant & Food Research and commercially released in 2010. Known in the industry as G3, this variety replaced the older Gold variety (Hort16A) and has become one of the most successful kiwifruit varieties in the world, accounting for 75% of Zespri’s global sales value. It is now also cultivated in China under authorized programs.
A Kiwifruit That’s Easy to Enjoy:
Unlike traditional green kiwifruit with fuzzy skin, SunGold features smooth, hairless golden-brown skin that can be eaten like an apple or easily sliced. The flesh is a vibrant golden yellow with a smaller core and fewer seeds, offering a premium eating experience.
Flavor:
SunGold delivers a tropically sweet flavor with a refreshing sweet-sour balance. Some describe it as a cross between a mango and a strawberry. With a Brix range of 13.3–17.5%, it offers a consistently delicious, juicy taste. Chinese-grown G3 is reported to be “pure sweet with no acidity”.
Nutritional Excellence – Vitamin C Powerhouse:
SunGold is an exceptional source of Vitamin C, containing 161 mg per 100g of fresh flesh – that’s three times more than an orange. It is also rich in dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin E, and folate, making it a nutrient-dense superfruit.
Key Commercial Advantages:
Smooth, hairless skin – consumer-friendly and ready to eat
Superior storage life – excellent shelf life for logistics and retail
High vitamin C content – compelling health-focused selling point
Strong consumer preference – consistently outperforms other gold varieties in taste tests
Harvest Season:
October (in China) – a premium autumn variety with strong market demand. With proper cold storage, supply can be extended for 3–5 months.
